BCS watching for Lions

The official word on Penn State’s possible BCS bowl won’t be known for more than a week, until next Sunday.
But that doesn’t mean there aren’t things to watch for now.
Want the Nittany Lions in the biggest possible bowl? Well, start by rooting for struggling Oklahoma to rise up at home and upset Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon. And then root for undefeated Texas to take care of business next Saturday in the Big 12 title game against Nebraska.
Oklahoma and Texas victories open the door for the Fiesta Bowl to select either Penn State or Iowa with its first pick.
And that could be one of the more difficult decisions the Fiesta committee has had to make in a while, considering the the immense travel power of both schools, and Iowa’s strong alumni and retiree connections to Arizona.
If Oklahoma State and/or Nebraska win, then Penn State’s BCS chances move to the Orange Bowl. The Lions would seem to have a better shot at pushing out the Hawkeyes for that bid.
And here’s something else worth following this weekend: Alabama’s matchup with Auburn today is also intriguing, though it lacks the direct impact on the Lions. Is Alabama, with a struggling offense, primed to be upset on the road? If so, that could be a domino that starts a crazy finish at the top of the BCS standings, which will determine the national title game participants.
If enough unlikely dominoes fall, both Iowa and Penn State could be shut out of a BCS bowl bid.
